Sign of the Cross
In the name of the Father,
and of the Son,
and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
The Sign of the Cross is the universal mark of the Christian, invoking the three Persons of the Trinity while tracing the redemptive cross of Christ upon one’s forehead, chest, and shoulders.
Morning Offering
O Jesus, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I offer Thee my prayers, works, joys, and sufferings of this day,
for all the intentions of Thy Sacred Heart, in union with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass throughout the world,
for the salvation of souls, the reparation of sins, the reunion of all Christians, and in particular for the intentions of the Holy Father this month.
Amen.
Originated with the Apostleship of Prayer in the nineteenth century, the Morning Offering consecrates our day from its very first waking moment to God in union with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.
The Lord’s Prayer (Our Father)
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
The Lord’s Prayer is the summary of the whole Gospel, given by Christ Himself. In seven petitions, it praises God the Father, desires the coming of His kingdom, asks for daily spiritual and bodily sustenance, and begs for forgiveness and deliverance from evil.
